Kell’s Legend – the Musical

We’ve been dying to break this news, and the ink is still wet on the contracts, but we are delighted (and a little bit intimidated) to announce that we have agreed to a limited run by the Royal Shakespeare Company of Kell’s Legend – The Musical.

Casting is yet to be confirmed, but there is already a director and a musical director attached, and Andy Remic will act as creative consultant (to ensure that no changes are introduced that conflict

World Horror Con and EasterCon 2010

This past weekend Marco and I attended the World Horror Convention. It was held in Brighton, and it’s the first time that a World Horror Con has been held outside North America.

With around 600 members there for the weekend, it was significantly better-attended than World Horror Con 2009, which had fewer than 50 (some reports suggest around half that number). We chatted to a lot of agents, authors and publishers, and hooked up with Angry Robot’s Andy Remic, Ian Whates and Gary McMahon, and found that – despite us not having yet launched in the US, Angry Robot

Some random links of interest

A few interesting snippets from the web over the weekend:

The BBC reports on how hundreds of children in Glasgow embarked on a series of vampires hunts in the 1950s, in order to kill the vampire responsible for the deaths of two local children, and how the authorities used this case to strengthen UK censorship laws.

Fear of the so-called Gorbals Vampire had spread to many of their parents, who begged Pc Deeprose for assurances there was no truth

Fantastic reviews in today’s Guardian

We know how good our books are, of course, but it’s still nice to get confirmation from a national newspaper.

In today’s Guardian, reviewer (and excellent SF author) Eric Brown says this of The Bookman:

The Bookman is a delight, crammed with gorgeous period detail, seat-of-the-pants adventure and fabulous set-pieces.

And of Thomas Blackthorne’s Edge:

Cumberland leaps off the page,

Novacon this weekend

novacon logoSays it all, really. Except to add that:
Novacon is one of the UK’s most venerable SF conventions.

– For years it was held in a truly dismal venue in Walsall, one of the world’s great locations (for fans of urban blight).

– This year it’s moved to Nottingham. To a hotel maybe 400 feet from the Angry Robot offices. Across the road from the official Angry Robot local pub. Our manor, basically.

– (Yes, the rumours

robottype1No, its not the name of a character from yet another insipid children’s TV show. It stands for National Novel-Writing Month. Although it’s international, rather than national, and the target output is barely a novel, but look – I’ve only just started this post and you’ve got me criticising, already. Yes, it’s your fault.

NaNoWriMo is an annual activity, wherein deluded fools prospective writers the world over, attempt to write a novel in a single month.

Dan Abnett signings this weekend

Hit the road, DanLord Abnett of Sandling and his retinue of disreputable jugglers, trollops and assorted scoundrels hits the road this weekend for a brief tour of Scottish climes. The tour was sorted out by our chums over at Games Workshop’s Black Library so most of them will see our Dan scribbling “The Emperor Protects” and similarly stirring epithets over well-licked copies of Horus Rising and the Ravenor Omnibus – and especially Dan’s fabulous
