Author of The Red Men, If Then and The Destructives: Matthew De Abaitua will be taking part in the Essex Book Festival by holding a creative writing workshop! But what’s even cooler than seeing Matthew spill forth wisdom, is that it’s taking place in a creepy, Cold War, underground nuclear bunker which just screams dystopia – only slightly different to where he lectures at the University of Essex right?! So, if you’re in the London area (UK),

On Wednesday August 23rd two of our most fantastically cerebral authors will meet minds, bodies and literary learnings at the BSFA meet up in London.
Matthew De Abaitua will be heading up to Liverpool Saturday (May 13) to take part in a panel as part of the Writing On the Wall festival.
The event is called Tax the Robots and… well the festival programmers can do a much better job of explaining the day than we can, so without further ado:
The term “robot” was coined by Czechoslovakian playwright Karel Capek in 1920 — “robota” being a Czech word
Matthew will be at Innominate in Birmingham this coming weekend, where he’ll be taking part in various panels and holding a reading, so, if you have a membership be sure to pop along to the Salisbury Room of the Metropole Saturday night at 7PM to hear his dulcet tones.
Here’s the synopsis:
The story takes place in the same brilliant post-emergence universe as Matthew’s If Then and The Destructives, finally bringing readers to the University of the Sun (the new home of the AI ’emergences’, far away from their sort-of parents, humanity).
While you’re eagerly waiting
The wonderful Matthew De Abaitua, author of the extraordinary and thought-provoking If Then and The Destructives, will be appearing at Brunel University in London tomorrow (Oct 26) as part of the university’s The Writers Series. (more…)
Matthew will be chatting with Andy Sawyer (Librarian of the Science Fiction Foundation Collection at the University of Liverpool), as well as giving a short reading and signing books. The evening will last from 6:30PM – 8:30PM.
If you’re London based come and join us on Tuesday, March 8 from 6.30pm at the Broadway Bookshop in Hackney. We’re sure Matthew can be persuaded to do a reading, and there will be a Q&A session, too. Nibbles and other refreshments will be on offer, if that tempts you even further. More →
