Megan E O’Keefe wins the Morningstar award!

Glad tidings from Derby! This weekend, at a wonderful ceremony during the EdgeLit literary festival, the Gemmell Award for Fantasy 2016 winners were announced. We’ve got to tell you, we were absolutely delighted!

Firstly, our Megan E O’Keefe, author of Steal the Sky (part of the Scorched Continent series, which also includes Break the Chains and Inherit the Flame) won the Morningstar Award for Best Fantasy Debut! *Throws glitter* Alas, Megan couldn’t make the ceremony, what with living in California AND spending the weekend celebrating her birthday but the wonderful Matt Dovey collected on her behalf (see picture below). Thanks for everything Matt!

Secondly long time Robot, Gav Thorpe won the Legend award for best novel for Warbeast (Black Library). See, we always knew you were a legend, Gav and now you’ve the trophy to prove it! Luckily, as a local, Gav was around to collect the award and wandered off at the end of the night looking a bit shady clasping four foot axe.

Congratulations to both on such wonderful wins!

Now, to get this Morningstar Award in the post. *Searches for bubblewrap*

Continue touring the Scorched Continent – Free Peek at Break The Chains

Wanna take a little look at how Megan O’Keefe‘s Scorched Continent continues after the exciting events of Steal the Sky? Sure you do!

Check out the first three chapters of Break the Chains below… but be warned, this world is addictive: “I must confess that I tore through this instalment, and I’m really looking forward to the next one” (Sci-Fi and Fantasy Reviews).

Break The Chains by Megan E. O'KeefeA year has passed since Detan set the skies above Aransa on fire, and the armies of Aransa’s new dictator Thratia are preparing to knock on the door of his aunt’s city, Hond Steading…

As the city that produces the most selium – that precious gas that elevates airships and powers strange magic – Hond Steading is a jewel worth stealing. To shore up the city’s defenses, Detan promises his aunt that he’ll recover Nouli, the infamous engineer who built the century gates that protect the imperial capital of Valathea. But Nouli is imprisoned on the Remnant Isles, an impervious island prison run by the empire, and it’s Detan’s fault.

Detan doesn’t dare approach Nouli himself, so his companions volunteer to get themselves locked up to make contact with Nouli and convince him to help. Now Detan has to break them all out of prison, and he’s going to need the help of a half-mad doppel to do it.

Break the Chains is sold in all good bookstores and wherever books are sold.

Explore the Scorched Continent on us – free Steal the Sky Chapters

Special Sunday reading for you (well, those of you who are yet to devour this splendid book) from “epic steampunk Firefly” Steal the Skythe first instalment in Megan E O’Keefe‘s Scorched Continent series.

It’s fresh, bright and brilliant. As the nice Joseph Heller at NPR said: “it’s a buddy tale, a heist caper, a socioeconomic thriller and a steampunk-seasoned fantasia all at once. And it fires beautifully on all cylinders.”

Steal The Sky by Megan O'KeefeDetan Honding, a wanted conman of noble birth and ignoble tongue, has found himself in the oasis city of Aransa. He and his trusted companion Tibs may have pulled off one too many cons against the city’s elite and need to make a quick escape. They set their sights on their biggest heist yet – the gorgeous airship of the exiled commodore Thratia.

But in the middle of his scheme, a face changer known as a doppel starts murdering key members of Aransa’s government. The sudden paranoia makes Detan’s plans of stealing Thratia’s ship that much harder. And with this sudden power vacuum, Thratia can solidify her power and wreak havoc against the Empire. But the doppel isn’t working for Thratia and has her own intentions. Did Detan accidentally walk into a revolution and a crusade? He has to be careful – there’s a reason most people think he’s dead. And if his dangerous secret gets revealed, he has a lot more to worry about than a stolen airship.

Break the Chains, the second in the Scorched Continent series was released just this month, so if you’re intrigued by Steal the Sky and want more, more, more, you don’t have to wait.

Steal the Sky is available in all good bookstores and wherever books are sold.

Cover Reveal: Break The Chains

Howdy folks!

We have a gorgeous new cover to show off! It’s for the second book in Megan E O’Keefe‘s Scorched Continent series: Break The Chains – continuing the capers of Detan and Tibs that we first saw in Steal the Sky.

We’ve been lucky enough to have Kim Sokol continue the series covers with this stunning and rather vertiginous illustration. You can feel the wind in your hair!

In keeping with her books’ lovable thief and scoundrel duo, Megan has written a blog about friendships in fantasy for you to enjoy and have fuzzy feels about. Our pals at the B&N Sci-Fi & Fantasy blog  have been kind enough to share it with the world.

Break The Chains comes out October 4 (US/Can) / October 6 (UK/RoW).

Click on the teaser below to be taken to the full lush cover and Megan’s excellent words. Can you see what they see?

Angry Robot Invades B&N’s SF & F Blog

Xmas_AngstromHo, ho, ho! Merry (almost) Christmas!

Although for eleven months of the year we are angry, seething robots, threatening to overthrow earth’s puny leaders and instil some cybernetic terror from our orbital death platform, we’re actually pretty merry when it comes to the holidays.

I mean, look at Angstrom’s excellent Santa hat. Nothing screams ‘Joyeux Noël’ like a robot wearing a jolly hat, eh?

Do you know what else gets us in the holiday mood? Offering you guys something a little bit different. Which is why we’ve teamed up with the B&N Sci-Fi &Fantasy blog to offer you a little slice of holiday joy each (work) day, in the run-up to Christmas.
