Twas the week before Christmas and all through the base
Not a creature was stirring…

…Except for our Nick that is, who was running around stringing up festive entrails disguised as decorations. Alas, the smell got a bit too much for bipedal carbon-based marketing manager Mike, who demanded that we string up something that hadn’t in a former life been, well… strung up.

Never ones to upset others over the festive period we decided to heed Mike’s cries to make some less visceral decorations instead. After much deliberation, a lot of cutting and sticking and some, um, disastrous attempts we happened upon most beautiful doodahs with a Robotic flair! Tell us, what screams bloody Christmas into your face more than a cut-out paper snowflake, bearing the visage of our wonderful mascot, Angstrom?

Now you too, puny meatsack, can make a festive Angry Robot themed decoration to cut up and put up in your own abode.  We promise if you put it in a prominent place in the house, probably next to some gin and a packet of Twiglets or two, we will spare your precious belongings as our automaton turn apocalyptic and tear through towns and crash through cities in search of those not buying our books this Christmas. You’ve bought our books too, eh? Right, well you’ll be rising through the Robot ranks in quick smart time!

Below you’ll find instructions on how to make your snowflakes and a lovely PDF file with the Angstrom template.

Kids, if you’re cutting the outlines please be sure to have an adult with you to help. We’re all for death and dismemberment but leave that til you’re a little older, eh?

Let the festive crafting begin!

So here’s all you have to do:

1. Download the PDF.

2. Open it up and print it. It’s set to just go onto some UK A4 (letter) but you may want to resize it to fit the paper size your printer can handle. Big is nice, weeny means you’ll probably lose a thumb trying to trim it, but feel free to experiment.

3. Fold it up (NB, you don’t need to cut the circle out first, unless you really want to). You might just cock the folding up first time but don’t worry about it. First, fold in half horizontally, then along one edge of the grey-tined segment. Then fold again so the grey-toned segment is on top. Fold the segment beneath it back the other way so it’s a “Z” in profile not a flattened spiral.

4. Using your preferred hacking implement, trim off all the grey parts, leaving the white. You’re going through 12 layers, so watch it!

5. Unfold. Wow, it’s like Christmas day already. Do a few, using different coloured papers, stick them up somewhere, and marvel at your crafting skills every 20 minutes until Twelfth Night. Then throw them in the recycling bin.
