We’re absolutely delighted to announce that we’ve grabbed ourselves a fresh hunk of rising urban fantasy star Chuck Wendig, in the shape of a deal for two brand new novels:
The Blue Blazes – the first in a new urban fantasy series in which lovable thug Mookie Pearl must contend with the criminal underworld, the supernatural underworld, a new drug that makes the invisible visible, and a rebellious teen daughter who opposes him at every turn.
Of course, the first Miriam Black novel, Blackbirds only hit the bookstore shelves a few short weeks back, but the response to it has been incredible (thank you, thank you all!) and we knew we just had to get in there and make Chuck another offer.
By signing up with us for these two new books, Chuck becomes the latest Angry Robot author to join the Angry Robot Four Book Club (your laminated pass is in the mail, Chuck), joining Dan Abnett, Adam Christopher and Mike Shevdon in the club-house (suggestions as to just what the four of them get up to in the club-house, on a postcard to the usual address…)
We made Chuck say nice things about us for the press release and those nice things were: “I am lucky to once more be invited back into the clanking embrace of my favourite robot, who I have found far more lovable than angry (though that is perhaps because I have not made the metal creature mad just yet).
“Together we have already turned Blackbirds into an international bestseller, selling twice as many copies as 50 Shades Of The Girl Who Kicked Over The Hunger Games – I didn’t just hallucinate that, right? Whatever. Point is, I’m happy to be back in the author stable here at Angry Robot and look forward to another two books!”
Our Lee added: “Chuck is one of the hardest working – and most talented – writers working in urban fantasy. His books are lean, fast-paced and gritty, and we’re lucky to have him. Now, can you take that gun away from my head please, Chuck? Thank you.”
It’s been a pretty big week for Chuck, this week has, what with his other announcement on Monday; namely the selling of a significant slice of his whisky-sodden soul to Amazon Children’s Publishing in the form of a three-book YA series. So it looks like the future’s bright and distinctly Wendig-shaped all round.
Keep your eyes peeled for Cormorant and The Blue Blazes artwork, cover blurbs and all the rest in the weeks and months to come.
